Aaron Hedlund is an assistant professor of economics at the University of Missouri-Columbia and a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Throughout 2020, Hedlund will be a senior economist in the Council of Economic Advisers at the White House. His other policy experience includes operating as the acting director of academic outreach at the Center for Growth and Opportunity, past stints at the Heritage Foundation and the International Trade Commission, and service in senior state-level advisory roles. Hedlund specializes in research  on issues related to the consequences of debt for economic performance, particularly regarding the recent housing and student loan crises. He has also written and spoken extensively on free-market reforms to the tax code and healthcare system. In addition to appearing in peer-reviewed academic journals, Hedlund’s work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and National Review, has been used as expert testimony in state-level policy initiatives, and has been presented at numerous think tanks, academic institutions, and central banks.
